The Calcium Isotope (δ44/40Ca) Record Through Environmental Changes: Insights From the Late Triassic

چکیده

Abstract Calcium isotopes (δ 44/40 Ca) are particularly useful in palaeo‐environmental studies due to the key role of carbonate minerals continental weathering and their formation seawater. The calcium isotope ratio can provide hints on past changes fluxes, environmental shifts, ecological factors alternatively diagenesis rocks. investigation Late Triassic record offers a great opportunity evaluate such time interval that witnessed important turnovers, as first appearance calcareous nannoplankton, ocean acidification periods elevated extinction rates. In this study, we present δ Ca data set from upper Norian (Upper Triassic) through lower Hettangian (Lower Jurassic) interval. records reveal two globally significant signals: ∼ 0.20‰ decrease early Rhaetian small, negative (∼0.14‰) excursion corresponding emplacement Central Atlantic Magmatic Province, at end Triassic. possible explanations for these signals isotopic influx high chemical rate carbonates possibly acidification, respectively. considerable (∼0.15–0.30‰) offset between study areas is likely combined result local differences lithology marine diagenesis. major evolutionary step represented by occurrence nannoplankton did not have determining signature carbonates.

Geohistory Analysis of the Tabas Block (Abdoughi-Parvadeh Basins) as Seen from the Late Triassic through Early Cretaceous Subsidence Curves

The study area is situated in the Middle part of the Tabas Block. It contains outcrops of rocks that formed along longitudinal faults in Early Cimmerian orogenic phase. The basin subsided along these faults from the Late Triassic to Early Cretaceous, which include two sedimentary cycles. A sedimentary cycle, related to Upper Triassic to Bajocian is known as Shemshak group. Another sedimentary c...

Assessing the record and causes of Late Triassic extinctions

Accelerated biotic turnover during the Late Triassic has led to the perception of an end-Triassic mass extinction event, now regarded as one of the ‘‘big five’’ extinctions. Close examination of the fossil record reveals that many groups thought to be affected severely by this event, such as ammonoids, bivalves and conodonts, instead were in decline throughout the Late Triassic, and that other ...

Osmium isotope evidence for a large Late Triassic impact event

Anomalously high platinum group element concentrations have previously been reported for Upper Triassic deep-sea sediments, which are interpreted to be derived from an extraterrestrial impact event. Here we report the osmium (Os) isotope fingerprint of an extraterrestrial impact from Upper Triassic chert successions in Japan. Os isotope data exhibit a marked negative excursion from an initial O...
